What’s In a Name

The term “hub & spoke” has been used often since its inception in the early 1980’s by American Airlines. Generally, when we think of hub-and-spoke we think of air transportation (or a bicycle tire), with flights flying from one metropolis to another and finally on to their intended destination. The same can be said about a company with its brand, creative design and a unified message.

Much like the airline industry, we want to get people and businesses to their final destination. With a central idea or brand (the hub) we can extend products, services or a central message (the spoke). The different services connect to provide a united front or focus a single issue to relevance in the market.

The ability to reach new platforms can be daunting for startups, inaccessible for the budget-minded and often considered unnecessary for the established.
