Five tips to improve your WordPress site

Web Design

WordPress is sweeping the internet as the most popular content management system for websites, allowing users to easily manage and update content while having a great looking design.

This wasn’t always the case, as solutions like Drupal and Joomla once were king, but today, WordPress is the software of choice, powering over 25% of websites.

With so many sites powered by WordPress, there are some things you should do to ensure a great experience for the user. Here are five of our top tips:

Keep it updated!
Make sure you have the latest updates by updating your Wordpress site regularly. It takes a little time but its worth it to ensure security and all is in order.

Maybe once a month or so, take a little time to make sure you have the latest version of everything. This will make your site more usable to readers, and you will avoid frustrating people, which often makes them go away and stay away. It’s also very important for security, especially if your site uses multiple plugins.

Make contacting you easy
Make it easy for readers to contact you, and make it easier to capture emails for your mailing list at the same time.

It should be easy to find a way to contact the owner of the site, and you should encourage that. This will also open up sales opportunities. Plugins, such as Lead In, provide many new ways to track contacts that engage with your website and also help you convert them into customers.

It’s also smart for you to use MailChimp, Constant Contact, or another email marketing application that will integrate with your WordPress site.

Keep content current
Regularly go over the content on your site. Make sure the links work, that pages refer to other pages correctly. Make sure all your photos are correct, and check for spelling and grammar errors often. It will also help you rank higher on search engine results lists, which can boost your page-views and, in turn, your business.

Go mobile
Work on making your site friendly to mobile devices, because that is how more and more people are going to be accessing your site. Hub & Spoke has been a leader in mobile-friendly, or responsive web design in Missouri, since even before it was standard practice.

Consider a redesign
You do not want to have a different site every day, but it does need to change at times just to keep it interesting. As you look at your site, consider things that might be different, or how things could work better. Every now and then do a major redesign. Then, with WordPress, it’s easy to make tweaks to make your site more interesting and more effective.
