We've been working with the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation, the official non profit arm of the Missouri Department of Conservation, for many years. Along with custom website design, we've had the chance to develop two unique custom database solutions for the organization.
The most complex of the databases was developed by Hub & Spoke for a consortium of partners, including the U.S. Army Core of Engineers, Missouri Department of Conservation and the Conservation Heritage Foundation. The database manages stream mitigation in the state of Missouri, helping track new construction developments, their ecological impact and a unique credit system to repair damages caused to the environment.
Along with creating a custom donor database for Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation's non profit efforts, tracking donor engagement and outreach, we were asked to evaluate the creation of a unique database for the Stream Stewardship Trust Fund, a program of the U.S. Army Core of Engineers that is administered by the MCHF.
The parties involved originally envisioned a Microsoft Access database, but after a careful review of the clients needs, we determined a custom online application was best, one that could be accessed anywhere (instead of at their office on a specific machine).
Over two years in the making, we first developed a complex information architecture for the database, which acts almost like a online banking system to track new construction and its potential impacts on waterways in Missouri.
After fully understanding the needs, we worked to develop the database in PHP using the Laravel framework, with Bootstrap for part of the design. The finalized database includes many reporting functionalities, along with the online credit tracking and project tracking system, all which can be administered by staff without special training or knowledge.
