Why explainer videos for your website or brand?

Video Production

People have shorter and shorter attention spans when it comes to internet surfing.  And when they land on your page via a keyword search or paid advertising, they want to know how you are, what you do, what you offer, or what cause you are fighting for in two minutes or less.

Rather than leave it up to the user to discover this information by browsing your various pages, tell them everything they need to know in a short explainer video.

What is an explainer video?

Explainer videos are videos that are ninety seconds or less. They are usually front and center on a landing page and seek to answer the most important questions visitors have.

There are three kinds of explainer videos; live action, animated, and whiteboard.

  • Live action explainer videos contain real people and/or real backdrops. They are good for videos in the medical field or non-profit field.
  • Animated videos rely on the imagination.  With this kind of video, you can virtually create whatever you want to get your message across.
  • Whiteboard videos are the ones where text is written, erased, written again and so on to explain what it is you do and why the viewer should take a meaningful action.

Tips for creating an explainer video

The script is one of the most important elements of the explainer video.  In fact, there is where it all begins. Everything else is built off of the script.

In most instances, you will fill out a creative brief about your website that will help guide the copywriters into creating a killer script for your explainer video.

Make it short and sweet The less your video says, the better.  This way, people are apt to remember what you said if it gives them just one or two ideas to jostle around in their minds. The general rule to follow is to include no more than 150 words per minute of the video.

Use professional audio. Poor or gritty sound will get you nothing but  a higher bounce rate.  For this reason, use a professional audio service with a variety of a talent to choose from to find the right voice to tell your website’s story.
